Default 4.8 cam in miata

I've got my hands on a 4.8 for free (traded computer skills) and I'm thinking about putting it in my miata with a t5. I'm guessing curb weight under 2500. 4.8 came out of van that was running with 150k miles. Dude upgraded his 3/4 ton van to a 6.0.

This isn't my daily or anything so I don't care a lot about drive ability.

The thought of an 8k rpm v8 in my miata gives me a tingly sensation.

So I'm thinking about porting the heads and upgrading the valve train, alot. .590 lift, a 224/232-degree duration split at 0.050 and 115 LSA for a camshaft sounds good? I stole the specs from super chevy. Any other suggestions?

This is on a budget.

Swap and budget dont seem like words that go together well.

Either way, good luck!

You are right. I could just plunk down the money and buy everything I "need" but I'm pretty sure I can swing this somewhat cheap. Already have an 0411, hptuners, wideband, and 4.8. I've got an instrument cluster from a camaro and a blazer so I may find a way to squeeze one in and run an external tach. Car has no ac or power steering. So I can delete that stuff too. It's funny the more I look around the more parts I realize I have. Have a stock ls1 cam and another set of truck heads.

I realize my fabrication skills getting the motor in and ford 7.5 irs in will be the most difficult part.

I'm mostly just wondering what would be the cam options.

The thought of an 8k rpm v8
It's going to take ALOT more to safely rev that engine to 8000rpm, and certainly not on a budget.

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...-engines-.html

That's where I stole the cam specs. They don't say anything about the bottom end or anything... just needing more spring pressure and they rev to 7500.

I was thinking maybe a trunnion kit and good springs would get it close.

That a Crane #1449121(224/232 115lsa+2.5, ivc is 44.5, overlap -2*) fairly mild cam lobes a with a 56 I/55 E ramp rates. I'd highly recommend sticking with mild cam lobe like these if you want to spin it above 7k rpm.

It's very similar to the Cam Motion, Blower Stage 2 cam.

Thanks for suggesting cam motion. Hadn't even thought about them.
