Default Help with ticking noise.

The ticking started after I installed my cam, I just figured it was normal but the noise comes and goes. Sometimes the motor will be silent and other times it will sound like a sewing machine. Is this normal? Could it be an AIR leak? The car doesn't do it that often and when it does occur it happens forabout a minute or 2, which feels like forever and then stops. any Ideas.

Chances are if you had a leak, you'd hear it all the time. What springs are you using? Does this only happen in the morning or when cold? Is you oil pressure good?

Here's what I looked into and eventually found out first-hand post cam swap myself. That cam ramps fast. Even more than a C1 like I put in. My car took about two days to "adjust" the valvetrain back after torquing the rockers back down. You are gonna have the sewing machine sound. It's the new price of poker. The combination of stiff springs on top of fast ramps equals valvetrain noise.

Provided there are no other issues present, I'd write it off and just adjust to it. Do what everyone told me...turn up the radio! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm curious, I have this sewing machine sound even on my stock internals car, is that normal?

Loudmouth- You are probably hearing injectors ticking. Wait till the cam goes in and then you'll know the "Singer" noise! Don't you just love aggressive ramps??

It happens when ever it feels like(no special Conditions). My oil pressure is finie it ranges anywhere from 40-60psi. The only reason I am worring about it is because its not constant, the noise is fairly loud and it comes and goes.

If you have headers, check to see if it's the check valves?I would guess if it will come and go that it is not the valves?
