Sometimes if your budget allows, it's easier to go with proven head/cam combinations.

I'm still doin Cam research, but I like the TSP 233/239 but not sure if I should go 112 or 114 LSA.

I also like the Comp 54-458-11 but worry it may be a little big.

Anybody have input?

My input would be that your cams are huge and will be a dog on your 4.8 motor. I would so something along the lines of a 218 226 on a 110lsa installed at a 110 centerline. This is more than enough cam to turn the rpm a 4.8 motor will rev with the parts you have listed. You need to increase compression and get your DCR up if you want to make power. If those were my 862 heads I would have them valve jobbed with a 2.0 stock valve and port them myself because I am a porter and I would port them to the application. Look at the trickflow cam for a 455hp kit on a 5.3l in that link its listed as a 216 220 on a 114 and you have less cubes even still. A motor that comes on faster and accelerates faster can and will beat a higher horsepower car.

Default Narrowing down a cam....

Camshafts and the LS could be a course of study worthy of a 2 year degree at most universities. Jesus.

At first I thought I'd get a custom grind, and was advised to look in the 22X/23X duration, .610" lift area.

Through a lot of research I had determined that was gonna be too big.

So then I started looking in the .600 area, and after wading through the rigamarole and getting advise in this thread, decided that was too big as well. My concerns were valvetrain stresses, and dual rate valve spring requirements.

So then I started looking in the 228/228 .590 range and using a higher rate Beehive spring. Then usable RPM band became a concern.

So I have finally settled on the .580 range. After a conversation with the guys over at Texas Speed, I think I'm gonna go for their 224R camshaft (224/224) on a 112 LSA, .581"/.581".

http://www.texas-speed.com/p-1146-te...-camshaft.aspx

Specifically I'll buy their Cam kit that comes with springs and push rods.

May have to order soon.

you might talk to martin at tick cams, he did my cam in my 4.8.. but it uses a spring friendly lobe to not kill the springs and is 630/620 lift..

Default Gasket sets

So anyone have a recommendation on gaskets for this thing? Does Fel-pro make a decent gasket set for the LS? Looks like I'm gonna need both of these.

Default Fuel injector size

So With a 4.8, 224R cam, stock C/R, Headers, tune, stock TB, stock MAF what size injectors should I run? Is there a calculator I can use somewhere?

I found that the 4.8's flow 25.4lbs and the LS1's flow 28.8 lb/hr.

I have a 2002 LS1 manifold with injectors, wiring harness, ecu, accessories to go on this motor but I'm unsure of injector size. I'd think the stock LS1's would be ok for the amount of power this thing will put out.

Is there a better OEM injector to use? Like an LS7?

Thanks,

Default Timing chain and oil pump

So this 4.8 has 65,000 miles on it. What does everyone recommend for timing chain and oil pump?

Reuse stock or aftermarket?
