I need a new cam
Hey guys. I need a new cam.
I'll probably get one professionally spec'd for my application, but I'm curious as to what you all recommend?
I'm fairly new to all this, so any advice is welcome.
Setup is as follows,
Ls1 stock aside from flycut pistons (previous owners doing)
Advanced Induction ‘HCR” 219cc ported 241’s milled to 58.5cc
FAST 102 ported by Tony Mamo
Nick Williams 102 TB
1 7/8" long tubes
3" ORY into a 4"Flowmaster Y merge (smooth merge), necked back to 3" to the muffler.
Not really looking for max effort or anything. Still wanting something that has good street manners.

Previous cam was an AI cam 230/234, 0.600/0.601” 112 +3
Made good power, and had great street manners.
As some of you know, it was another members build, not mine. I would be fine with replacing with the same spec cam, just trying to explore options.

Agreed. Something along the same lines should be great for the combo.
Kip at Cam Motion or Geoff at EPS should be able to fix you right up with a new cam of similar spec on one of the aircraft steel Cam Motion cores.

I suppose the only thing that i could definitely say, is more overlap. However that's the immature side of me saying I want that big cam sound. Lol.
IMO for a little bit more overlap, but very similar try a 230/234 111lsa +2 same IMO, you might not notice the difference, but it will be different. IMO, see what BTR, TICK, EPS and Cam Motion suggest before making a final decision on your new cam specs.
As to why it detonated, there are a handful of reasons it could be.
Bad fuel
Tune
Driver error (more than likely)
Heat
Pcv failure?
Considering that it happened right after I bought the car, I tend to think it's something I did differently.
Phil at bluecat has such a good reputation, that I don't doubt the tune.
My guess is either I lugged it around too much, or else I got lower quality fuel in it.
I just tuned the 205/210 cam with -11* overlap (iirc) that's in my truck to chop at idle.
Get the cam for what you want it to do, the tuner can make it idle more smooth or choppy.
