Default Rod bolt reinstall

I u/s the factory bolts need an initial tq value to 15lbs, then angled to 75*. I've also seen 85*. I bought a angle meter from the parts store and its a POS that inconsistent. If 85* is the correct figure, I think I could eyeball 90* on a breaker bar and be alot more accurate than that guage.

Anybody have any advice? I cant find a good angle meter around here.

The GM TSB from March5/2007 calls for 15 lb ft, then 85*.

The folks who authored the book How to build and modify GM LS engines apparently never saw that TSB. Book was written after 07.

What did you set yours to Vince? With your fancy borrowed torque angle wrench?

I think I went 80.....half way in between.

We'll, my BIL couldnt find his shmancy fancy Snap-On digital tq/angle wrench, so I went to Pep Boys and bought one of those cheapy angle meters which was a giant POS and far as I was concerned - way to sloppy for anykind of repeatable result. After seeing that the revised angle spec was 85*, I eyeballed angled all the bolts to just about 90*. Between the angle debacle and the rolt bolt controversy I think it may be easier to pic up a set of Scat/Eagle rods and be done with it.
