Question a very very newbie question

what do the numbers mean when picking out a camshaft? like 230/224 .575/.563 111 LSA what do those number mean? sorry for such a newbie question but everyone gotta learn somehow!

230 is 230 degrees duration on the intake side, 224 is 224 deg. duration on exhaust side. 575 and 563 are intake and exhaust lift respectively, and the 111 is the lobe separation angle.

Freaky, what Mike said is corrrect, however... that's just the tip of the iceberg. If you do a serach... you'll find your question answered at length and in much greater detail. It took me more than a year of reading to find what I really needed/wanted for my car based on my use/driving/emission standards etc... Good luck, and do your homework before you decide.
