Default 5.7 Motor Options/Limitations

Hey Guys, I'm trying to help a fellow friend out that is wanting to build a 5.7 Nitrous motor but we have a few questions.

His current motor does not have nitrous on it, but here is his goals. His goals in the end are maybe a 200~250 shot to acheive 500~550 HP.

He already has a Tick Performance cam, Im not for sure on the spec's but he had Martin Spec it out for nitrous. He currently is running a Ported set of 241heads, P & P TB and a ls6 intake and your basic full bolt-ons. His car is an Auto as well, with a 9" rear. Everything else is factory.

1. What are the week links on factory parts? Crank, Rods, Rod Bolts?

2.What are the limitations of said parts?

Any and all legitimate suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The rods and pistons won't like a 250 shot on top of that hci.

Nothing wrong with a 250hit on a stock bottom end. Start small, go non-projected tip, and read the plugs. Remember too much timing and too rich is a far worse condition then running leaner with less timing. Spend some time in the nitrous section!! Carter ran in the 9's cam only on a 250 or 300 hit. Drove the car to the track ta boot.

Don't think you're going to need that much spray to hit 550whp with a hci motor. I'd definitely do the rod bolts regardless tho.

HCI2000SS, Thanks a bunch for your input fella, I have done a little research and from what I have found the weak link with the rods are the rod bolts themselves. With that said he had planned on replacing the rod bolts at a miniumn. He was wanting to re-use the existing pistons if at all possible upon inspection the engine has been disassembled.

kinglt, I'll do a looking around in the niyrous section as well. The reason that I posted it here was because I was looking for info on what the internals could stand. I hope that that didn't come across as being a smart butt. If it did I didn't mean for it to. Im just trying to gather info so that we can build it once and correct on a tight budget.

BlueBird346 Hopefully he wont have too but just in case, we want to cover all of our basics.

A well sorted HCI package and a 150 shot could get a full weight car into the 9.9x range with proper gearing/stall/suspension/tire mods. And you'd be in the 600+rwhp range if setup properly. Possibly even knocking on 650rwhp with the right camshaft and heads. 550 is achievable cam only with a 150 shot.

Definitely into the 9s with a 200 shot and HCI. Any weight reduction that can be done on top of it just makes the car that much faster. And I wouldn't hesitate to use a 150 shot on the stock bottom end. 200 or 250 might be pushing it, but it comes down to the tune.

you said he has a cam, what timing chain did he install?

from experience, a stock ls1 chain (discontinued) will go at about 500whp w/ nitrous. personally, I think the lack of a stock chain tensioner is what did it in.
