Question LS1 Build Up

Hi everyone

I have a 2002 z28 camaro 6 speed and I am wanted to get it up to the 450 to 500 hp range. I'm new to the ls1 and see a lot of info on it but its so much to take in with everything you can get for them. I just want to know my options for heads, cams , exhaust, oil pumps, timing chains, Short throw shifters, etc. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I started reading this board late last year, because I have the exact same goals and questions.

There is so much information available, that you really can't put it all in one thread. Oil pumps alone will fill 4-5 pages.

And, learning the LS engine (or any engine) is like eating an elephant. You do it one bite at a time.

So, make a list of the basic questions and systems you want to learn about; say, oil pumps. Then spend a few days here reading all about oil pumps. Once you're well educated, then you'll probably still have a specific question or two that you can ask here and get a good answer.

That's been working for me, anyway.

Start by asking how much you want to spend first

Thanks for the help. I think I want to start with heads, valve train and cam. Thats what I want to do first. So I will start looking into the heads on here and see what I can find. As for the money not really to worried about how much I spend. This is going to be something i'll do over time so I will save till I can buy what I think I want.

The amount of knowledge on this site is crazy, tons of smart people, the search button has been my friend. Alot of things i read are personal preferance and budget. Make sure you have your goals in mind so you dont end up spending money on something you would change down the road.
