Default the camshaft & its noise

i dont know alot of stuff about cam shafts .. so i have a question .. when i put a new cam on my engine to produce more horse power.. is it neccessary that it produce noise too??
i mean does the powerful/good cam produce noise and the bad cam doesnt??
becuase i want to put the camshaft in secret.. i dont want my friends to know that i have a camshaft

by the way i own caprice 2002, engine: Gen III LS1 5.7L V8
http://www.users.on.net/nweber/commo...specs.html#ls1

i want to increase my horsepower .. whats the best camshaft(s) for it?? and how much increase i could get from each one??

if you want to hide the cam the 02 z06 cam will sound like nothing was done. or you could go with a comp 212/218 on a 114lob.may have a little sound but not much. from those cams you will gain 15 to 25hp. why do you want to hide the cam? if you really want to go fast add a tnt wet kit, nobody will ever know, just don't pop the hood.

whats the caprice weight? also what are you doing with the car? the ls6 and gt2-3 cams are great sleeper cams but there gains are mostly from 4k+. theres also the 2 mti stealth grides as well. any relatively small cam on a 114, 115, 116 lsa will sound stock.

i agree with mike, why hide the cam, lope is one of the best parts of tossing a new cam in

it weights 1,780 KG
i might put an exhaust system + headers

becuase ill race on money (the faster car gets money) i dont know what do u call it.. but i think u call it street racing.. and i will race with stock engines .. they just hear the sound.. so, no sound means no cam for most of them..

by the way.. if most, i suppose, silence cams give: 15-25hp ,, what about the noisy cams??

damn, 4k pounds, that'd make a 4200lbs or so race weight. with that many pounds to push i'd look at a cam with nice tq. if you still want the stealth route try the stealth 2 with a good set of heads and all the appropriate bolt ons.
