so straight up I'm a newb. I've never really got into engine work but I recently picked up a gm 4.8 for $300 with everything minus a trans with the sole purpose of learning engine work. while doing some looking around and research I'm getting confused with all the overload of information out there and what needs to be done/what should be done/and what I would llike to do. I came accross a vid
http://www.powernationtv.com/episode...ls-tech-part-1 that kind of follows the same lines of a build I want to do. My thing is I'm buget minded but i don't like doing things twice so I want it to be reliable. in the vid they pretty much don't replace anything except for using an upgraded valve spring kit
http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/sme-k-14300 . what some of my questions are is if you're going to open the engine right up why not replace the rings, maybe rod bearings, push rods ect. my goals are 300whp and to live at high rpms. how much would it add to my budget replacing those things and even going as far as centre boring the block and honing out the cylinders or for my hp goals is that really nesecary? I want to keep the truck intake cause I hear they flow pretty good and hood clearnece isn't an issue. they also just reserficed the valves but consitering how much a valve set is why not just get new lighter one? sorry if I'm all over the place just everything is a little over whelming
