Default 8.1 missing issue

I got a 2001 2500 hd with 8.1. I found that the 2 rear cylinders aren't firing. I've heard that it could possibly have wiped the cam out. I was just wondering if anyone else has an idea. It also has all new wires, plugs and coils.

Welcome to LS1tech!

I suppose the 8.1 could be discussed here, it's fuel injection system and PCM is the same as a genIII LS1.

Have you confirmed these cylinders have good spark? When you pull the spark plugs, do they have fuel on them?

If the cam lobes were wiped, the valves wouldn't operate. Pull the valve covers and spark plugs and turn the crank by hand to see if all the rockers go through their motions.

I haven't pulled the rear plugs yet. I unhooked the power from the coil on each side and it made no difference in the runnability. I'm just trying to figure out where to start looking and what I should do. I really like this motor and need the truck. Snow is on its way and it ain't gonna push snow like this.

I will also pull the covers to see if the lobes are wiped out. Also if the cam isn't bad what could it be ?
