Default Removing a main cap to check bearing?

I have a low mile LS2 shortblock that looks mint, cam bearings look good, turns over smoothly, cylinder walls are good, but I would still like to pull a main cap or rod cap or two to take a look at the bearings. I've done this on SBF motors and put many thousands of hard miles of trouble free operation on them. Is this something I can do with this LS2?

Yes. They can be a little stubborn to get off though.

I wouldn't, if it's low mile then run oil thru it and change the filter and examine the filter. If no metal then run it. Seems me a lot of work that's not really needed, uses you suspect bearing issues.

Tough call on this one, If you are sure the engine was well cared for no probably not. Its not easy to pull the caps, I would search the net for more info on properly removing the caps.

Should be able to get an idea of the engines condition just by a visual inspection. If you won't sleep at night unless you know for sure then pull one bearing cap.

Have at it. Just remember to apply some RTV under the heads of small bolts that screw into the caps from the sides of the block, or else you will have an oil leak.
