2000 5.3 fine, then shuts off and now clacks
I need some help- My son called from college this afternoon-he has a 2000 Silverado with a 5.3. It normally runs quiet and does not have any issues. He said it was running normally, then sputtered and died. I made the road trip to check on it. It will start and run if the accelerator is depressed, but sounds like the lifters aren't getting oil at all. Oil level is in acceptable range and the oil pressure at idle is normal (40 psi). Upon a suggestion of a friend, I changed the oil filter with no change in the problem. It also dies when the acell pedal is released. ANY IDEAS? Thanks!
