stick with the stock cam if your gonna go with only a 2600 converter...or maybe step up to the Zo6 or hotcam(for sound) not even worth it IMO to get a converter that small on an ls1 though. For a beginner designate an entire weekend.

I disagree with you statement. I have a 2800 stall converter and it has great driving manners. It isn't too loose. I also have a 224/224, .581/.581 cam in my car. The cam made a big difference in power. Also, with the low stall I have 420 rwtq @ 2800 rpms.

my feeling is like this, the stock converter is what 1800? Peak tq on a cam car generally comes on at 5000rpms...why go for a converter that probably wouldnt even flash to 3? At that point the converter is useless and you depend on your gearing too much. Bottom line is its far from optimal.
