Default LS6 cylinder head options

I understand this issue has been beaten to death; there are literally 100's of search results. But I'm still lost as to what I should do for a cylinder head- it seems that one day AFR is supreme and then the next TFS is better or PRC is the way to go. I would send off my stock LS6 heads off to get ported but that's just a colossal pain in the ***.

LS6 Z06 has a 228R 110LSA cam in it. Long tubes... etc. Stock intake. Love the cam. It sounds mean and pulls pretty good. Ideally I should have done heads and cam at the same time. I'll save that for next time.

Car sees the road course- But it's for fun. I'm not planning on doing anything more than club events and time attack/ solo sprint with this car.

Car will have Itb's on it at some point too. Been thinking about building my own.

I still don't want to fly cut.

I've looked at AFR 210's, TFS 220's, PRC stage 2.5's... and GM's LSX-L92 Small bore heads. What worries me is losing my lightweight valves and replacing them with heavier stainless steel ones found in all of the above heads.

The AFR, TFS, and PRC heads are all within a few cc's/cfm's of eachother. The GM are the only odd ones out I guess.

I guess which head is going to give be the best bang for the amount of swearing and bleeding?

Should I be really (really) worried about going to a heavier valve for road course duty? Is there anything I can do?

And what the hell do I do for rockers? I believe its the AFR or TFS that have a blurb about valve lift at 6600+ RPM.

You already have 243 heads, so I wouldn't even worry about buying aftermarket castings. Pull them, and send them to AI for their 226cnc package, which is under a $1,000.

You will pick up a lot of power below the curve, and still be able to utilize the stock rockers.

Yes you should worry, but you can always install lightweight valves in any of those heads (at a cost of course).

You are still better off sending your heads to be ported.

Another option is to get TFS 205 heads which have the pm guides (st. rock compatible), they're cnc'd, have 58 cc chambers (11.25 w/GM mls), and you can put your hollow Z valves in them.

Ill have to fire them an email and see what the turn around would be then.

Wish I lived in the USA... would make buying car parts so much easier.

The problem with hollow stem valves on the road course is they have a tendency to break when pushed hard. If you want to road course this car I would advise you step up to an aftermarket ferrea stainless hollow valve if your worried about weight. There is more to a valve train then valve weight, but it is great to have the strongest lightest valve as possible, especially with a hydraulic roller. You can have a mild lobed cam speced that can use solid stainless valves. How much do you want to spend and how aggressive do you want to get?

Perhaps a better question would be, which aftermarket heads allow me to keep my OEM valves?

Shipping my heads off to get CNC'd is still an option... but my car's going to be sitting in pieces for at least one month in order for that to happen.

You could always buy my AI 232 cc 243 heads lol that wouldn't put your car down waiting for them to get ported.

Anywa, personally I would either go ported 243s or get TFS heads.
