Default End of street racing with a 4l80E :thumbsdow

Well, I was going to put a 4l80 in the E36, and, when I started looking at the gear ratio's of the 6l80's and mustang 6 speed autos, I got sad. Now I dont generally condone street racing in the form of wet box burnouts and really anything over the speed limit. With that, i would say a quick dig off the line and I would be no match for something with a 4.xx first gearing with a 380hp car. Heck, the mustangs v-6 are 305hp.

Almost............almost, makes me wonder if I just should not get a yugo 3 cylinder and be done with it?

4L80 is for big power combos. Then the gearing becomes less of a factor and having a taller first gear will actually help.

The 4L60E has a deeper first and OD which let's you be slightly more comfortable with more rear end gear.

Don't think the little LT1 could have pushed my pig of a car to 1.53 short times without the 3.06 first and 4.10 rear gears.

Well, I am not going to have high hp, only around 380hp, but, I push it hard ALL the time. I need something that can hold up to tat for 100k miles.

E36 = baby pig but with a 2.48 first gear against a 4.17 first gear. I see ugliness and taillights in my future, but, we will see . If it gets bad enough, I will swap out for a 6 later.

Try the equalizer: 4k stall with drag radials. Keep in mind most of these cars are not running drag radials. Not to mention I've beat several manual transmission cars that are faster on paper but the driver is not up to the task.
