ls1 marine I am wanting to build a ls1 for my boat but am concerned about the constant high rpm's.I am the type that hurries up just to slow down.What changes would you make to the stock motor to be able to withstand the constant high rpm's (5800)
Lots of oil mods with oil cooling. Larger pan with high volume and pressure pump. What you're basically doing is what a race car driver is doing with his engine. High RPM, lots of abuse, lots of heat.
I would definitely install the timing chain damper. That RPM is right in the problem zone. I would also stick with the stock harmonic damper or upgrade to the ATI with the softer compound. Kurt Urban has posted on this several times in the past. I would also upgrade the LS1 valve springs to the LS6 valve springs to aid with high RPM control since the LS1 valve springs lose some of their stiffness with miles.
The motor should work well, there are several aircraft applications as well.

You may also want to contact Chris Straub (member Cstraub) because he does a lot of support with the offshore guys. He knows what parts of the motor get beat up in this application.
