Default PRC Valve Spring Issue

Went to assemble my heads yesterday, finished one and got about 3 valves into the second one when i grabbed this out of the box. Took a minute to figure out why the stem was about 3/8's off from the center of the spring retainer when all the other ones went on just fine. It looks like it was cut at the wrong angle or something.

Kind of sucks because its on my DD and I really need it running again Monday and I can't get ahold of Texas Speed until then..

These are brand new in the box PRC .650 Springs

Bad spring (left) compared to a normal good spring (right)

Off center? You're using the supplied dual spring retainers?

Yes, using everything the kit came with. It's off center of the retainer because both ends of the spring look to be cut at a slight angle instead of flat. (I assume these are cut with something when they are manufactured). I'm not sure if it was in some sort of jig crooked or what but that's what it seems to be.

Wow. Thats terrible. If youd have used that, especially with two piece valves, youd have either worn a guide out or potentially have broken a valve or both!

Exactly.

I guess i need to clarify that these are BRAND NEW in the box valve springs. I failed to do that in the original post.

I myself would have used BTR or Pac springs but it's a manufactured product, sometimes stuff like that happens. I'm sure TSP will fix the problem ASAP.

Exactly, I've used BTR and TSP, great companies who both take care of their customers.

I'm sure they will too but how did that get past quality control? It's just a pain especially when they are for your DD and it needed to be done over the weekend.

I did do a little searching before posting this to see how common this was and I had no luck finding anything so maybe it's just my luck getting the only box ever with one bad spring.

Don't worry we overnighted you a replacement for that spring. I'm sending you a call tag to get that one back for inspection at the factory.

We've got your back on it!! Sorry for the delay its caused you!!

Some folks seem to not comprehend that BTR is not a manufacturer but just a retailer. Very few spring manufacturers, lots of brands can probably buy the same exact spring from both companies.
This is in no way a knock on BTR, there is value in a trusted retailer.
