Default New 2 LS1... Different cam too?

I'm new to LS1 guys to please be patient and educate me. Does the LS1 have a totally new camshaft design? Can they not accept a cam from a non LS1 350? If not, just for education what's different? Also, do they make solid roller cams for the LS1 and where? I have always enjoyed the radical lift with short timing on the solid rollers. How high can I take the lift AFTER I replace the springs? And what springs should I use (I want to replace them on the car)? I know this is alot to ask but please bear with me guys...

why dont you tell us the setup that you want to run first. a nice hydraulic roller cam (what ls1's have) might serve your purpose. with that said you can convert to a solid roller setup if you so choose. but with all the power and speed these hydraulic roller cams are putting out i dont see any reason to switch over unless the car is drag only.

almost no parts from a SBC (350, etc) will interchange with the "LS1s", including camshafts
but most parts from the 4.8, 5.3, 5.7 (346), and 6.0 will work with one another

Actually I've been doin' some research and it's gonna sound strange but you can run a hydrolic roller lifter on a solid roller cam with no problems as long as you don't rev over 6500-6800... and it actually preforms as well or better then a solid without the hassle of setting lash. Since the solid cams open quicker they breath better so I figure it would be a sneaky way to get an extra 10-15 hp... you still can run a shorter duration and get good breathing ...

The LS1 has a camshaft that is .300 larger in diameter than smallblock, therfore the lobes are bigger you can run a much more radical lobe profile because of this. The hydralic designs avilable (such as Comp Cams,XE-R "s)make it possible to run a lot of lift say .600 with a short duration at .050 say 218 to 224 with no problem,a lot of guys run a 228 with .600 lift on a 112 LDA,theres way too much imformation you can get on this site about cams without trying something unknown, unless you KNOW what you"re doing I would stick to the proven set-ups.As for springs,it seems the most common is the Comp 26918, it"ll take .600 lift and will drop in your heads with NO machining. You might want to invest in some good pushrods while you"re at it as they(the stock ons) seem to be a weakness.I would get a good timingset such as a Rollmaster Comp, etc, the stock rockers seem to be OK but you could go to a shaftroller set-up such as a T&d,Jesel,orComp Cams also Patriot has a nice one for a good price!
I to like to think outside the BOX but the LS1 is a whole new animal and it don"t take much to make them very fast, hope this helps some!!
