Cam choice
Hello, I need some suggestions on picking out a cam. I have a LQ4 block with with Mahle flat top and brand new 241 heads. The heads were taken off a GM crate engine and never run and are complete. I have after market alum intake and fuel rail 34 lb injectors. I'd like to keep the stock valve spring since they are new. Will be running in full length headers and T56. I'd like to be near 400 horsepower at the flywheel. It's going to be a daily driver car. I was thinking about the GMPP or LS6 cam. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks
400fwhp is about 340rwhp so you goal is a easy one!
I'd consider the GM Hot Cam, 219/228 112lsa lift .525"/.525" with -.5* of overlap and a nice mild lope idle. In a larger 6.0L engine it'll run even smoother and have better low-end power. I'd pick this any day over the LS6 cam.
BTW you can probably meet you 400FWHP goal with the stock cam, also you can possibly see 400rwhp with the Hot Cam in you larger 6.0 L engine.
Further more you could probably even run a Cam Motion LS 5.7 Stage 4 (228/232 114lsa +4, lift .550"/.540") cam which uses fairly mild cam lobes(55* ramp rate), and only has +2* overlap which will have just a little more lope than the Hot cam, but will still very smooth running and DD friendly while making noticeably more power. IMO, Just to be 100% sure I'd contact Kip at Cam Motion to verify that the lope are mild enough for those springs.
