Engines rebuild question Since I'm planning a restomod im planning to use a donor car for parts. Do I need to worry about mileage since I plan to rebuild and forge the bottom end? If I make sure it drives and engine sounds fine it should be fine as a starting point correct? I know some machining will be needed. But want to know if there are ways to keep it to a minimum.
The mileage should really only affect the wear parts, such as rings, bearings, lifters, etc. but a low mileage engine that wasn't very well maintained could be worse off than a high mileage engine that was very well maintained.
Usually if the engine is running, it's a good starting point. Once it's torn down and the critical dimensions are checked, then you will really know what needs to be machined. Most LS engines only need the bores honed, but the application will also determine if additional machine work is needed.
