Default double roller timing chain modification advice

Hello fellow LS owners, I have a question for those who have installed a double roller timing gain?
So my mechanic installed a roller master double roller timing chain and a mellings ls1 ported oil pump for more flow for my stock ls1. What was striking to me is besides the oil pump mod for the double roller, he said no mod for the timing cover or lengthening the oil pickup tube was required.. Should i be worried? Prior to buying my parts i read nothing but stories of these parts not fitting properly. Any advice or knowledge is appreciated. Have a wonderful day!

I once had to fix an engine that had a double roller and the oil pump spacers weren't installed. The timing chain basically clearanced the pump and sent aluminum from the pump housing throughout the engine.

The funny thing is that engine was pulled out and torn down because it broke up real bad above 5500RPM and the two piece 24x reluctor was thought to be to blame. It ran great once the engine was rebuilt and the oil pump spacers were used.

The aluminum tore the engine up.. That is crazy sorry to hear I'm sure it was a lot to fix? That's what I'm tryingto avoid. when I bought the pump it cost me extra to have it modded for the double roller and I know for sure the shim was installed?I should be good then right? Any other things to check and make sure of? Thank you for the quick reply

The front cover would need to be clearanced. The pump would hit it in the corners around the bulge. I used to paint it with machinists dye and test fit and the pump will remove the dye where it hits, leaving witness marks.

What Melling was it? If it was just the stock replacement, I believe they are the same thickness as a stock pump. Therefore, spacers would be the only thing needed. Sometimes they hit the front cover, sometimes they don't.

If you use the spacers, you do have to twist the pickup tube forward. That in itself involves a bit of risk as your pickup tube to pan clearance can change.
