Default any problems for see able ??

Hi guys ,

A mate had a great set of tsp cnc 241 heads , milled 30 thou on his ls1. He then purchased a ls2 block and has used the TSP cnc 241 heads on the ls2 block. The cam shafts he is using is a 227/231 with 585/585 lift on 112 lsa.

When he first fired up the engine , he drove for about 10 minutes to take it dyno , he put the ls2 block and the tsp 241 heads together himself, during the drive , his battery got fried. He replaced battery, but the the engine fired up only another 10 times before burning the starter motor out.

What could be the problem ?? Does he need a more powerful 3 hp starter motor ?

I'm estimating the static compression would have to be 11 at the most.

I would run a larger gauge starter power cable. Stock wiring is often marginally sized.

That's good advice. Big cables are a bonus with a lot of compression. Especially if it's a long run. Also, make sure that every connection is solid. Peel back the insulation a bit and see if there's some corrosion in the cables under there.

If all that's OK, then it probably does need a bigger starter. 11:1 static, especially with an early IVC, tends to put a strain on the starter. Or the old one could have been on it's last legs, and that was just enough to push it over the edge.

I like high torque mini starters - they make me happy.
