Default Ls1 patriot head advice

I purchased a 2000 z28 m6 with an ls6 cam and patriot 035 heads. Although the cam sounds way too choppy to be a ls6 and car is smoking pretty bad at idle after warm but not smoking when wide open or cruising car also has catch can. I was wondering what size of cam I can run with these heads as I don't know if they've been milled. Also could the oil consumption be from a worn valve guide?

The can is about 1/4 of the way filled up but it doesn't look like oil it's a reddish tan and smells of fuel

I figured if it were a ring issue it would especially smoke wide open or high rpm decel but does neither I'm lost. Only thing I could come up with was a head problem also has ls6 intake

Also I don't know if they're actual 035 heads or the ls6 style patriot version they have 035 casting marks with the patriot stamped on front

The 035 casting is factory , it was used on 6.0 truck engines LQ4 and LQ9 its pretty much the same as the 317 . These heads have similar port and runners like the 243 , easy to spot they have D shaped exhaust port , but will lower CR due to 71 cc chamber stock . Oh and by the way I a set of Stage III and they are 317 casting.

I know what the 035 castings come on but I heard patriot would use 035 castings as ls6 style heads after they welded up combustion chambers and machined them

Well the Stage III were available with 68 , 70 , or 72 cc . The only way to be sure is have it cc measured . If yours are 68cc it will be a wash on a LS1

On most stock castings that are cnc ported the rocker bolts intrude into the intake ports. This can cause oil consumption especially on startup. The fix is to remove the rocker bolts, put some liquid Teflon or anerobic sealer on the threads, reinstall them and torque to spec. You'd be surprised how often this happens, and how often its overlooked. Good luck, and I hope this helps.
