Default Porting Stock Heads

how much gain.. in HP.. at the RW.. will you see if you port and polish your stock heads instead of buying all new heads.

I ported my own heads and installed a comp 212 218(baby cam). I also put biggers valves(2.02&1.57). At the track I went from 13.4 to 12.78 at 110 mph my 60ft stayed the same at 2.01. I have stock converter for now. Porting them yourself is the cheapest way to go.

the only problem is i dont know much about engine work or anything.. and i know i would screw them up probably.. lol. how much RWHP you think it added?

I don't know how much more power it added but it feels alot stronger. I'm not going overboard with this motor. All I wanted was better gas mileage, and I got it. 28mpg on the highway, up from 21mpg. Dewalt has an electric die grinder and you need a few deburring bits, sand rolls, and do alot of reading on porting before trying. It's easy. But try on an old set first.

I have a little experience porting. I've done dart iron eagles, TBI heads, LT-1's, vortec heads, and I have 7 sets of LS-1's I want to experiment with.

If you have the tools and can get a second set of heads to mess with then I say go for it. There are three possible outcomes:

1) it works out really well and then your set (go into business doing them)

2) you mess up the heads porting (cut into the water passages) and never get to install them (oh well.....move on)

3) you put them on, found out you did a bad job, and then go buy some good ones (again..oh well......at least you made an effort right? )
