Ive got about an 06 Impala SS in the shop. Has the 5.3. Also had it dumped on my by another shop.
Question is. It cam in and said it had #4 intake lifter was bad. Pulled the head and foudn that the spring on top of the lifter was collapsed. however the lifters on #2( in the same retainer) are a diffrent style with no spring. Is this normal on a stock setup? Is this common for a 5.3 with 200,000ish miles on it? Thanks

 

yes. 8 of the lifters are AFM/DOD and 8 are standard. 4 AFM lifters on each side i think. I just replaced one of these in my friend's 07 impala.
