freeze plugs
if it popped out then you need to buy another one. They are pressed in with a hammer and block of wood so if its loose enough to come out (even if you removed it) you need a new one (not reusable).
the freeze plug should look something like this:
outside block
|_____a_____|
inside block
Just get a piese of wood that will fit inside the freeze plug (where the "a" is in my pic) and drive it into the block (the "cup" side faces outside the block). You can also put a little sealer on it (before you install it) if you want to make sure it stays in.
Don't know if my BS is very understandable but it should get you at least started.

Yeap that's about right. Don't hit it too hard and make sure it's not seated at an angle.
I used to press them as much as I could without tapping, then I would get a piece of flat metal, put it aganst the plug and tap it in until the plug is flush with the seat.
Run the motor through a couple of heat cycles and double check for leak.
