Hi, I have a slight tick that is not audible upon start up but will come on soon after, say 2-3 minutes. It will also come and go. I just changed all the pushrods,and installed a BTR trunion bearing kit. I used a mechanics stethoscope and have pinpointed to the #6 cyclinder. I hear it most when I put it in the header form #6. I assume it is the lifter. But what is it doing or not doing to cause this. I hear it more through the exhaust and hardly at all with the hood up.

 

Have you double checked the rocker mount bolt to be 110% sure it's tight, and what's you lifter preload with the new PRs ?

 

I didn't check pre load because the engine is all stock, just bolt ons. I used 7.4 chromoly BTR push rods. I forgot to mention it made the noise before the new pr and trunions.

 

It's probably either a bad/plugged lifter or you have an exhaust leak. Has your fuel mileage went down about the same time the tick started?

 

If you happen to rule out a exhaust leak then consider trying to unplug the lifter like in this video.

 

I haven't noticed a difference in gas milage, and I have rulled out an exhaust leak. The noise is much quieter than the 5.3 in the video after the cleaning, but I think I will try the carb cleaner down the pr hole.
