5.3 Crank and Cam questions.
The 5.3 will be going to the machine shop, probably getting opened up to a 5.7, then getting forged internals. But it will be a slow build as money doesn't grow on trees where I live.
My question is can I use the 5.3 crank is the 4.8 block? Is there any advantage? I read that the 5.3 crank is the same as the 6.0 crank?
Next question, the cam I pulled out of the 5.3 is a .228 .228 .116+3 .588 lift
Will that work good in the 4.8 with stock pistons?
What would you change?
A 5.3 with flattop pistons and 61cc heads will be at about 10.5:1, which is a nice compression to have for a street motor. I honestly would spend money on a cam that is better suited for the smaller displacement.
4.8L stroke is 3.267", 5.3L stroke is 3.622. On your 4.8, at TDC, the piston sticks out right at .006" above the deck. If you swap the crank and nothing else, your piston sticks out .183". Might cause a problem or two
