Guidence on lq4 build
Im looking at building my first short block myself and i have a good idea of what i want to do with it and i know what it will be used for, just got a few questions hoping yall can answer.
I picked up an 05 lq4 short block with ls2 rods as the project block, has aftermarket rod bolts(i believe kaltech?) What id like to do is strip it down, clean it up and possibly bore it .030 amd put forged pistons in it.
This is what im thinkin it woukd cost roughly to do, so help in this area id appreciate before i got going
Thinkin $500-700 for pistons
But block work i have no clue on, assuming like $100-200 for a cleaning and bore .030 over?
What would i be lookin at cost wise to get the rotating assembly balanced?
Can i reuse the kaltech rod bolts that are currently in the engine now?
All the machine work will be done at vaspeed as im only 30mins away.
This short block will have a zl1 top end on it with probably 11-13 psi range and custom grind cam

You should be able to reuse the Katech bolts. I don't know of any Kaltech bolts, so I'm assuming you mean Katech. They aren't TTY or anything, so you can reuse them so long as they weren't overtightened or damaged. You can find this out by torquing the bolt to the recommended torque value and checking the stretch. If it's close to or under the stretch value Katech recommends, then they should be okay. If it's higher rand they've stretched more, then they're junk.
They must be katech, ive never heard of them and he said it over the phone, and there the only machine shop ive heard of around me that are decent is why im choosing them atm, i just didnt want to drivedown there to get a price and they wont give u price quotes over the phone
