Default What caused my cylinder gouges?

Curious as to what everyone here thinks killed my motor lol. This is the pic from the damaged cylinder, honestly I'm not really sure what happened timing wasnt way out and I never really saw any knock retard so idk. Afr was around 12.9-13.0 as well.

Maybe a hotspot softened the metal? That or rust that got scrapped away... Not really sure.

Ya in not sure either it doesn't look like running lean or timing to me ya know? I was thinking maybe a flaw in the sleeve from the factory

To be honest, not many know these engines as well as you do. I'm trying to think of off the wall causes because you've likely already thought of the common ones.

Is it possible it is water related? Like water getting in through the intake and making flash steam?

Lol I honestly don't think I know a lot and certainly not more than most. Does it look like timing damage to anyone else? I could be wrong but I'm pretty are bad timing, or running lean will screw up the Pistons long before the wall fails

It's either rust/corrosion or a metallurgical defect.

It really looks like water sat in the cylinder.

You can see definite lines running across the cylinder right at the pitting. To me it looks like water was sitting there and caused rusting.

You certainly know more than me, so take this with a grain of salt.

It does not look like timing damage. Even if it was nitrous, I would expect the Pistons to fail before the sleeves. If I was looking at copper, I would say it looks like a sulfur attack, but it ain't copper.

I'm thinking water just thinking of where you live, but whether it's chemical or flash steam, couldn't say.
