Default Cam Motion 221/226 in 5.3??

Picked up an '04 LM4 (all aluminum 5.3 from trailblazer) recently to swap into my '67 Chevelle. While looking at cams I came across this one http://store.cammotion.com/the-titan2 and was wondering how it would do in the 5.3? Motor will be stock other than the cam & springs and midlength headers. Looking to keep some of the lope it has now with the current sbc (355ci with 230/236 110). Trans will be either th350 & 3k converter or 4l60 & 3200 converter, car has 12 bolt with 3:73s.

Any thoughts or other recommendations are welcome.

That would go in a 5.3 with a converter very nicely.

With the gears you've picked, that'll be a strong combo. You'll be happy with that setup

Yea I think so too.

Any ideas on if I could get away with using pac1218s with it? Or any other cam recommendations? Trying to stick to a fairly tight budget.

They list it using smooth lobes so it might be okay but very close. I'd make sure to check coil bind if you did go with them.

The Comp 26918's would be a better choice since your lift is right at .600".

I was looking at the same cam for my 5.3 to do in a couple of months. I was reading this article https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...k-results.html Let us know how you like it.

Ask kip at cam motion whats the best spring to run with it, and how to shim it. He can give you the best answer since he knows the most about his cams.

I think if you change cams, you won't see enough of a difference to make it worth your while, so I'd stick with what you have.

Kip's lobes are gentler on the valvetrain than many others like comp XER, etc. I would still lean toward BTR duals or PRC duals myself, but mainly for the added insurance of knowing if one spring breaks, the other will still lift the valve, even if it floats a bit.

Like "red" said, Kip will have the best answer on spring selection.

In you 5.3L that cam would be about like putting a 226/231 cam in a 5.7, so it'll still be on the small side. I'd go with the titan 4(227/232 113lsa) or better yet a custom CM grind 227/232 111lsa cam.

Well Id like to not have to rev it over 6500, which is why I was going with a slightly milder cam. And if I cant use the 1218s I will go with BTR duals, its just the 1218s fit in the budget better than the duals.

Well in that regard keep the intake duration to 223-224 and go with a 111-112 lsa , for more overlap (lope) and a lower power band, peak hp rpm.

Yeah thats why I was interested in the Cam Motion cam is that by looking at the specs I shouldnt have to spin it real high, and it will still make good power.

You should give kip a call and go over your goals with him. His advice is better than most of ours.

I plan to, Im not at the point of needing a cam just yet (will be another 2 months or so), just trying to plan everything out now so I can try to stay in my small budget.

Was also looking at Ticks SNS stg 1 cam which is 223/227 | .61x"/.61x" | LSA111+2 but Im guessing that cam would require spinning the engine higher than I would like too (6500+/-)

Tick lists the power band of that cam as 1600-6200. Sounds like it's a good match. The narrow LSA and 2* advance shift the power band lower. Perfect for a truck.

Couldn't have said it better. That is a great cam as well.
