Lifter recommendations needed
I'm rebuilding a stock bottom end lq4 with a 228R comp cam, new oil pump and a freshened set of 862 heads. 1 of the original lifters has pitting so i figure i get myself a new set to go with the new camshaft.

what these guys said. get the best lifter you can afford, theyre a pain to replace and the foundation for a good valve train. the morels are good but the johnons are about as good as it gets for a drop in unless you spend hundreds more. the morels will cost 200 and the johnsons ~400
I went with Brian Tooley's slow leakdown lifters when I replaced the cam and heads on my 383. I've had zero issues. They appeared to be a very high quality piece and I've now got over 15,000 miles on them.

Or, what I would recommend is a Cam Motion Low Lash Solid Roller with Morel solid roller lifters and T&D shaft mount rockers.
Screw Hydraulic. You can make a ton more power and not have to worry with it. Throw some PAC 1207X on there and let her rip.

ls7's are great in oem applications and they "work" in cam builds. does that mean everyone should run them? nope.... especially with xer lobes. I'm a firm believer if it aint broke.... but with lifters theres an exception.
I am currently running a set of ls7 lifters with the quiet eps cam lobe. The lifters are anything but quiet.
I have a set of Morel 5315 lifters to install but it's 105 degrees in the garage so it is going to have to wait for a minute to replace them...

The only 2 reasons I have seen/heard LS7 lifters is because either the valve seats are beat, and need replacing, or because the pushrod is too short because it wasn't actually measured, and used what everyone else used. JMO
you're right it doesnt. but the springs certainly care what profile is on the cam and you will need heavier springs for a more violent lobe which in turn puts more stress on the lifter......ya the lifter is def going to care what cam is in the engine because it means a nastier spring.

I find it very intriguing that you assume I'm uneducated about the subject. I'm aware of what you've done on your builds but that certainly doesn't mean you're right or that I don't know what I'm talking about. It's pretty common knowledge stock ls7 lifters don't cut it with stiff springs and violent lobes. I had a 5 page thread about this subject a while back but besides that I'd like to think i'm pretty educated about these things, Randy from johnson spoke about how they saw no measurable improvements going to a larger wheel on lifters.
But being that you know so much about it you should probably call Brian Tooley, Martin, Tony Mamo, cam motion, randy @ Johnson lifters and more that I'm forgetting and tell them that all their stock wheel lifters won't handle a stiffer spring than a stock ls7. So when installing a pac 1207x with 170 lbs of seat pressure there's no need for a 2116 Johnson or something similar, stock ls7s are a-ok. Lmao

8200rpm. Stock LS7 lifters. Pac 1207x. Just since you dont think it works. It only made 630 though, guess I should have spent $1000 on lifters. FWIW it did stop making power at 76.

Why would a lifter care about seat pressure? There's no load on the lifter when the valve is on the seat. Comments like this is why I think you're uneducated.

I already said I know your build so I was fully aware of whats in it. Just because it's working for you now doesnt mean it will forever and it certainly doesnt mean its right. Like I said if you think its right then why doesnt everyone else do it? Call those people I mentioned and inform them that all their experience is wrong. Surely a set of 99 dollar lifters is more appealing than a 500 dollar set.
