When it comes to "makers", I believe we are the only manufacturer that is a sponsor on LS1Tech.com. We also believe that when it comes to quality, accuracy and performance that we are the best. That may just sound like another sales pitch, but there is a big difference in the way camshaft manufacturers operate. So, here are the specific advantages that you will benefit from with Cam Motion:
  • 30 years of Championship Winning Experience
  • Superior 8620 Steel Camshaft Cores
  • Quiet, Smooth & Powerful Lobe Design
  • Virtually Unlimited Lift and Duration Combinations
  • Polished Lobes For Quiet Operation
  • Cam Doctor Printout to Assure Accuracy Provided with All Cams
  • The Industry's Best Customer Service

You mention a great bunch of experts. Our cams are available from both Tick Performance and Brian Tooley Racing as well as direct.

Don't forget Ed Curtis.....to be quite honest all the ones mentioned are good choices. I would talk to multiple guys and compare what they all say and then make your mind who you want to go to.

I agree with you on the "specing" part, but they don't make cams.

Crower, Comp, Cam Motion, Isky, Lunati, etc. in no particular order.

Don't forget LSM and Jesel. My LLSR is unique as it was designed by Ed @ FTI then ground by Lunati on a LSM 8620 core.

One must understand that guys like Ed Curtis, Martin Smallwood, Lil John, and Pat G do not make the cams. They send the specs out to their cam maker of choice. Now with that said, many of the aforementioned names have "proprietary" lobe designs that only they have access to (I know for sure Ed Curtis has several), so you can't just call up Comp and have them grind a cam with those "proprietary" lobes. You would have to go through the person who owns the design. Also, most of the top names in specing out cams uses more than one manufacturer to grind cams. All of that depends on the setup. Ed Curtis uses Comp and Lunati for sure, but may user others as well. Martin Smallwood uses Comp, and I'm pretty sure he also uses Cam Motion now.

There is also Bullet. They are a cam grinder ans have a series of lobes called Ultradyne. You can buy direct from them or order through Tick.

Bullet bought all the Ultradyne lobes from Harold Brookshire (R.I.P) before he went to Lunati. I've used dozens of his UD profiles that are in the Lunati catalogue and they have been strong performers for sure.
When Toyota decided to enter the Nationwide/Nascar series they hired Harold away from Lunati as flat tappet stuff was always his specialty.
The few bullet cams I've run have been excellent and all the Isky stuff does it's job well but neither are big name players in the LS world.

Kip (not skip) is cam motion, and he is excellent. I also think very highly of Martin Smallwood at Tick and Tony Mamo as cam specifiers/ designers

I have owned or installed cams from Schneider, Isky, Comp, Crane, Lunati, Crower, Cam Dynamics, Erson and probably others that I can't remember. These days I use and recommend Cam Motion. I think Cam Motion sells a superior product.

He likes to use Bullet, I do believe. He's a member here but not a sponsor, goes by the user name NightTrain66 . He's the go to guy for gen2 engines and does some LSx things as well.

Howard's was one of the post WWII era companies based out in Cali and then the owner of Competition Products(Oshkosh, WI) purchased the name, some machines, and old lobe blanks back in the nineties IIRC. I've used dozens of their hydraulic/solid flat tappet and even gen I roller cams. They work really well and their newer catalogue is just loaded with great options and I use them because they're priced well, are local to me, and they stock a lot of their shelf stuff. I deal with Eric Johnson from Comp Products Tech support (same owner/1 roof) and he can even expedite a custom grind if I'm in a hurry doing a dirt track motor or something......great people to deal with. They now have newer CNC machines, decent lobe options, and quality.
I've never had a flat tappet cam of theirs flatten a lobe and like I said, I've probably run at least 50-60 over the years.

I don't remember ever having my hands on those. I did forget a warehouse brand from Wolverine called "Blue Racer" that went into some the the low cost stuff. Then of course there was all the OEM stuff, TRW and Sealed Power stuff, but who knows who manufactured those for them.
