Default New cam/timing set questions

So I put on a Coyles timing set along with a new cam. I put the crank sprocket on but also put the part that the oil pump is pushed by and it is covering up the marks. So my question is, since my heads are off and I can "see" when #1 is at TDC, can I just ensure the cam mark is at 6 o'clock while #1 is at TDC and be fine? Seems like I should be able to but wanted to confirm, this is my first engine build in over 20 years...

No. The crank can rotate quite a bit at TDC and not appear to move the piston much.

You should be able to look downward into it and see the mark.

The pic doesn't show it as well as you can see it in person. But you can see it clearly enough.

I couldn't see it so took it back off and used a sharpie to mark the top. Thanks for responding though!
