Oil Pump Pickup Girdle Q

Hi All,

Gonna make a girdle plate for the pickup tube, anyone know what the ideal or max thickness would be? I have 1/8" & 1/4" steel, and 1/8", 1/4", & 3/8" aluminum. My "gut" tells me 3/16" steel would be ideal, but that I do not have. Wondering at what point the thickness interferes with the pan...

Well, I ended up using 1/8" steel. Came out great and should be more than adequate considering the small amount of stress here. Because the "new" side has a 0.150" gap between the plate and the pump, you can't really crank down on it or the plate will bend. I plan on using a 6mm stud in that hole, followed by a 6mm nut that is 0.150" thick for a spacer. Then the nut over the plate can be torqued the same as the other bolt...

Yup. Why should I spend $25 when I could make one from scrap for 30 minutes time? Guess that's just me though, I'd rather make something than buy something. Besides, mine came out nicer than that...
