Default 5.3 piston question

I have a 5.3 out of my 2004 Silverado and it has 170,000 miles. Motor doesn't leak, doesn't burn or use oil, runs great. Has a little lifter tap or whatever that noise is that most 5.3s have but that's it .... Question: I want to freshen it up, would I need to buy new pistons and rods or just leave them? Thanks for any advice!

Clean pistons good, re-ring, new oil pump to be safe and new lifters. Reassemble and run it another 170k+

IMO you are asking for trouble cracking bearing caps without cause. I understand fresh gaskets and lifters but if going far enough to do rings I would look at rod reconditioning and all that.

I sir have 272,xxx on 01 Silverado 5.3. I have it tuned, exhaust work, and have pushed this truck far beyond the limits, I have had this truck since 3 miles. I have recent got it dynod for the other mods I did and I pushed out 325rwhp, 380rwtq with 272,xxx. I'd do some head work, new lifters, valve springs, all the top end products, reseal motor and run some good oil in it sir. These motors are built proof
