Default Gen 3 vs Gen 4 timing chain set differences?

Hey guys, I have a gen 3 block and crank, and swapped over a set of gen 4 rods and pistons from an alum block.

When I pulled the gen 4 block apart, I noticed that the timing chain set was much cleaner and looked to be in better shape then my gen3 gears. I am replacing the timing chain itself, but I was wondering if I could use the gen 4 gears with a gen 3 crank?

I'll snap some pictures of the slight differences that I noticed that made me think this might not be a possibility.

Thanks
Ryan

I know the chain is beefier(they use the LS2 chain) but i think the gears are the same.

My shop is a mess right now, I need to find both sets so I can snap a picture, but when I was looking at them and comparing the two, it looked like possibly the timing marks in relation to how it was mounted was different between the two?

Physically they looked the same, I was just curious about the timing marks or if anyone has ever tried swapping. I don't need to swap gears, I just thought it would be better to use the ones that were in better condition.

The big sprocket will have different "lobes" on it if you will. They are different if you have a 24 tooth or 58 tooth reluctor on the crankshaft. You have to make sure you have the right set.

You can use the Gen4 sprockets on your Gen3 engine (the crank sprocket is also the oil pump drive)...

the Gen4 cam sprocket's 4x timing reluctor marks are of no consequence since you're getting the cam timing signal from the ruluctor at the rear of your Gen3 cam.

What year did they switch over to single cam bolt, 2007 or is that only for VVT or DoD?

Single bolt cam sprocket is only for VVT.
