Default New to Everything. Lq4 build

Bought a 2001 Chevy Silverado with 6.0L looking to get some good HP! Not sure of budget. Looking to buy new Cam, Heads, Intake, possibly new efi. I was thinking Holley hi ram for intake. Just because I love the looks. Any questions or comments please feel free!

Settle down. The stock intake is fairly good, don't be in a BLIND rush to replace it, no reason to replace the EFI system either.

The true LS1 intake is worse than the truck which is why you see the LS1 owners so eager to swap it out, the truck intake is pretty close to the LS6 intake, not a low hanging fruit.

The Holley intake can make more peak HP but looking at this test it shifts the rpm rnges up 2-300rpm and only really shines way up high, probably higher than you will spin a truck engine in a truck.

I get that you love the look but do you really want an intake that raises peak torque rpm while LOWERING peak torque output slightly? Looks to me like it would hurt performance below 5500 and only start to shine over 6000rpm.

On heads I would look at something like Advanced Induction ported 243 or 799 heads. Or inquire about them welding the chambers of your existing 317s which makes them functionally identical to the 243/799s.

Next thing I expect you to ask about is roller rockers, drop that idea too trunnion upgrade is best when using OEM head castings.

Talking flywheel or rear wheel? Flywheel 450hp is really really easy. Those heads are capable of 450-500rwhp in the typical f-body BUT the heavier truck drivetrain will be more parasitic and you should be more conservative with cam selection in a truck unless this is 2wd, short box, regular cab hotrod not being used as a truck at all.

If you mean rwhp then honestly I would rethink(lower) your goal or look to a mild turbo setup.

regular cab? I am fairly certain they didn't make a crew shortbox stepside.

Your first post leaves the impression you bought the 2001 complete truck and want to modify it, most(4wd extended or crew often 3/4ton) of the 2001s with a 6.0l are a LOT heavier like literally a ton heavier than a 73-87 half ton regular cab 2wd. The truck you are talking about is convertible f-body weight but with a lot more aerodynamic drag and probably bigger tires hurting effective gearing so I would still be a little conservative on the cam.

What tranny you plan to run?

I have all the body to put it together it is just a matter of making it work. I will most likely use the automatic tranny that is in the 2001 until I decide to put the manual t56 in it.
