Default Valve seal install tips

Done this quite a few times, but I have been out of the game for a cpl years and a little rusty it seems .

Doing a build on my g8 and installed the BTR seals using a 12mm socket and at least half of the seals got beat up pretty badly. One even slightly tore on the base.

Now, it was a 6 point socket and not a 12 point. Could that be my issue?

I ordered 16 more and will do them again, but I want to make sure I do it right. I see there is a comp cam installer tool, but people were mentioning on here that it doesn't work that well.

Ended up ordering the kent moore tool just now, hopefully that does the trick. Hate doing things twice, but better with the heads off than having to do it later with the heads on.

Has to be a 12 point man the 6 point is a hair too big and causes exactly what you had happen. Be careful with the Kent more tool as I know some people had issues with it not pushing the seals down fully. I've done a few on ls cars always used a 12 point socket and a couple love taps with a mallet and they go on just fine

I had a hell of a time with the 12pt socket and a hammer method too. I didn't like it. Even with the seals oiled, some went on perfect, others ended up getting beat up.

Bought the Comp Cams install tool(I balked at first on this because of the bad reviews here)...worth every penny of the $24. Replaced the beat up seals with the tool, pissed myself off that I didn't do that in the first place.

You'll pat yourself on the back you ponied up for the tool

Thanks, I too balked at it from the bad reviews that's why I got the kent moore. Anyway, I bought both so I will see which one I like best and then sell the other. Thanks!

Regard the tearing, you should be using a straw to get the seal over the recess at the top of the valve stem where th he locks grab on. I have never used the BTR kit but I have used the Fel Pro kit several times and that step is critical.

Love the G8s BTW - just got one!
