Advice for checking junkyard LS Gen 3
a local Yard has a few complete 5.3s and 6.0s on pallets
they dont allow people to drop the oil pan, but allow valve covers to be pulled off.
If you have access to a bore scope, look in the cyls.
[I use a Snapon unit.]
Water?
Plugs clean?
Under vc clean?
Signs of damage, if it came out of a wreck. Donor vehicle still there?
Check block, head markings.
2005 and up, if possible.
These things have six bolt mains and can make stupid amounts of power under boost before breaking.
You see them running 250+ thousand miles under work vehicle abuses pretty routinely.
Buy one and bolt it into place
but then again I have seen sludgemonsters go super cheap and make crazy power.
just get as complete a set up as possible is my recommendation. whatever you dont use can be sold.
