In need to replace head gasket on my ls1. 5.7L

called my local auto shop and they quoted me 20 bucks for fel-pro, and 80.00 for mr.gasket.

whats with the big difference in price?

just checked summit, and I'm finding prices 30-72.00

what gives?

this is a na motor, no spray, with a mild cam, and some head work.

what do you guys suggest?

 

What year LS1?

What Heads? Some heads have a revision that prevent you from using MLS!

Don't forget new head bolts, and while the heads are off you could swap to the ls7 lifters, if that hasn't already been done

Multi Layer Steel

 

MLS, multi-layered steel, gaskets are the gaskets of choice is modern engines. They're an improvement over the older composition gaskets that were used in the earlier LS1 engines. MLS gaskets are easily removed and can be reused if you're inclined to do so. The composition gaskets work well enough but they are very difficult to clean off of the head and block surfaces if you have to remove the heads for any reason. They do cost more but they're worth the money.

 

I would say your best best is to call TSP and see what they recommend for their PRC heads!

At your power level, I would think you would be fine using the OE LS1 MLS gaskets, but TSP will steer you in the right direction.
