There are three choices of what I want to build. I want to build either a 347, 347 solid roller, or a 382. Im stuck between the three. Can someone help me out by telling me which one is the best one. Keep in mind that I my car is a daily driven carand its an automatic. Give me your opinions. Thanks

 

Well, Ill be the first to say, if you want your car to be daily driven, you probably dont want a solid roller(You'll have to adjust the valvetrain every so often)...I dont know much about the 347, but I do like the 382....Im a big fan of strokers They make pretty good torque throughout the powerband....Just my $.02,

yeah i've heard the strokers make great torque throughout...that's what i would go with

 

Another vote for the stroker here. For the street, the torque is king!

I personally am not much of a fan of the stock bore stroker motors b/c you get stroke bigger than your bore. Now an engine that is "square"- same bore and stroke seem to be on the borderline.

If I were you the 347 would be the way to go. The guy that has the FMS 434 that made the 605rwhp had a solid roller in the old motor(the only things that have changed are the new MID block, ls6 heads and a little larger cam) and he told me last saturday night at hooters that he ran his old motor 12,000 miles and didn't touch the valve lash. Thats one reason I chose to go solid roller.

Ive got a 347 lunati bottom end. If i were to do it again today, id do an Big Bore 387 or a 382 Stroker. Do bigger cubes man, the forged 347 wont give you much more power unless you do the solid roller. But im being honest when i say drivability will be a bitch as a daily if you build a solid roller. do the 382, good stage 2 heads, 230+ cam, long tubes and bolt ons. Say hello to 450/450 with good drivabilty.

It all depend of what you intend to do with your car. But if you're looking for a good daily driver, your main concern should be driveability.

You know, driveability is a matter of taste (or tolerance?). For some people, a 242/.600/110lsa 12:1cr is perfectly liveable for everyday driving, while others will say that a 230/.570/112 is too much. Personnaly, I would never do a solid roller for my daily driver. Right now, I have a 382 stroker being built with a 224/.560/112+4 (soft ramp) in it and all the goodies (10.7:1 CR). Pretty small cam is'nt it? I know that there will be a good amount of HP left on the table but I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of those high rmp HP to have real decent street manners and a lot of torque in the low and mid-range rpm. I'm expecting 440rwhp and 445rwtq from this engine. Sure, I could achieve much more HP from a 347 with an agressive solid roller cam but what's the point for a car that will spent 99.9% of it's time on the street/city driving?

Another advantage of the stroker, the way I see it, is reliability. You don't have to mess up with the resleeving process or adjust your valvetrain. I don't think you will have side load or oil consumption problems if you stay at 382cid. This is a proven setup.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing the guys who run solid rollers on the street. If they are happy with these engines/cams, than it's perfect. Personnaly, it's just too much for my taste.

Keep in mind that for the amount of money you'd spend on a 383 Stroker, you could have a 408 Stroker. A VERY streetable 408 should be able to make 500rwhp and 500ft.lbs. EASILY. If you're gutsy and are willing to do a Solid-Roller 408, you could make some wicked power. Don't be afraid of the Solid-Roller setups. Changing the valve-lash doesn't take much time once you've done it a couple of times. It's an easy concept to grasp and execute.

 

You sold it 6 weeks ago but apparently you haven't shipped it to the buyer yet, nor have you talked with him about it. What's up with that? You just collecting some funds for your real build up?

 

Yes, I also feel that should be addressed before you carry on with your build.

(b) He doesn't have the motor, and as of yesterday, hadn't heard from you about it.
