Default Newbie Ring File Questions

Hello All so im building a 408 stroker an i have a set of file fit rings im about to start working on. My question im sure is really dumb but here goes!

So as far as filing the top an 2nd rings i have a great understanding on how to get this done shouldnt be a problem!

The question our problem i have is how the hell do you file fit the oil rings part of the setup? Dont even know where to start an how do u check the gap on it?

Any help is great thanks in advance!

You don't need to file the oil control rings.

I usually check them, just to be sure. Wiseco used to or may still have instructions with their rings that say you should have at least .011" gap.

To check them, it's no different than checking the top or second ring. Put them in the bore one at a time, square them up, and see if an .011" feeler gauge slides between the gap. I have found a set of two in the past that needed to be filed, in which case you just put them on an old ring to support it while filing.
