Default LS1 timing chain damper-no tapping required

Trash or treasure, I took a chance on a timing chain damper on eBay. $50, and the description said it would fit Ls1-Ls6 gen III blocks without drilling/tapping. Just got it in today, and the quality seems pretty good. Also, it bolted right up to my 2002 ls1. Figured Id share.

It will only fit if the block has holes for it, which early LS1s did not.

Yes, as stated, it bolted up to my 2002 ls1 without having to drill/tap to fit the ls2 damper.

As far as the motor being "dirty"....not really sure how to respond to that

Considering this portion of the engine sits above the oil pan completely exposed to used oil as the motor runs, I'm not concerned at all. Did the previous owner need to change the oil more? It would appear so. 90k on the clock

A bracket like this works for everything else if you need a tensioner but do not want to drill and tap.

Trust me, if I had the coin to tear down the short block/hot tank everything/hone/replace pistons and bearings and rods I would have already done it. I'm at the end of my build (4 months ago I didn't have a roller, engine, tranny or basic tools) and at this point the cash cow has officially died. The motor runs fine and only has 89k. If I spin a bearing I'll have a winter project.

The engine dampener referenced above is one that I designed and had made. I have been working with a supporting vendor to carry them and I am happy to say they are now available through Brian Tooley Racing.

Hello Sgt Skid , I was wondering about that backet/damper You designed and built . I'm guessing that it's not made of metal and I'm not asking what. And also I am guessing again that it's thicker than it looks ? Am I at all in the ballpark ? And again I'm not asking You to disclose any info other than if I'm close at all ? Thank You and good luck for sure

SgtSkid disregard My post , I did'nt see the word bracket in You're description ,,,,,My bad

The dampener pictured in the OP post is what he made. The bracket I posted is from Melling. We offer it. If your block does not have the holes you can either drill and tap and use any of the many tensioners, including the one pictured (we also offer the original style "white" tensioner that some of the LS blocks used) or use that bracket that I posted.
