worn out or what?

Default worn out or what?

okay so i got my little brothers 2001 chevy 1500 extended cab with a 5.3 LM7 that has 246,000 miles ... he got a new truck and i got his old one ... i know this truck has been very well taken care of but i know very little about the "LS motors" because i have a 94 firebird formula with a LT1 as my race car.

well i have heard of people taking junkyard motors and boosting these 5.3 and making good power .... i am wanting to make the truck a little faster but i dont know if with this many miles if i should just drive it as is or if i can have a little fun. the oil psi reads at like 60psi at idle so good pressure there. it runs smooth ... so where to begin?

Start by determining the actual condition of the motor. Do a compression and leak down test on each cylinder. If they're abnormal, adding boost would not be a good idea.

If you haven't change the oil yet, collect a sample and send it to Blackstone Labs for analysis.

The LS is an excellent engine, probably the best V8 ever developed for a street car/truck. But 250K miles is a lot even for an LS. If you really want to add boost, I would go to the bone yard and pick up low mileage replacement first. People are adding boost to junk yard motors and making good power. But what they don't really tell is about longevity.

well i used that as an example as to the motor taking abuse at higher miles ... i am a nitrous guy and i was thinking about tossing a 150 shot on it

Same concept. Depending on how you apply them, nitrous can be tougher on the drive line than a turbo.

Don't forget to check everything behind the engine, too. Sudden jolt of power from a nitrous shot could do some interesting things to the u-joints, or differential.
