Default LS1 Engine Rebuild/Refresh, Quote Seems High?

I dropped my car off to have a noise checked out which I thought to be a bad lifter. There ended up being more damage than expected. Do these labor/parts prices seem a little high? The total came out over $5,500 and that is without new pistons and rods.

LABOR 6.50 650.00 Diag Engine Noise, Remove engine

ENGDIS 1.00 400.00 DIS-ASSEMBLE AND CLEANS PARTS

LABOR 1.00 1350.00 Rebuild short block, turn crank, bearings, rings, reassemble

ENGRAS 1.00 400.00 RE-ASSEMBLE LONGBLOCK

One way to give yourself peace of mind,
pull the engine out yourself, diagnose the situation, dissemble engine, clean everything,
have all the tools necessary to complete job,
reassemble, reinstall engine, address all the
nickel and dime stuff, oh yeah, order all parts
needed to complete job, and be prepared to
pull it all out again if something unforeseen goes
wrong, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
But no way would I spend that kind of money,
way to much, those people doing that kind of
work do not need to make money, or buy
tools to do that kind of work. Just my .02

LS
R&R with overhaul is 32.2 hours so their labor is pretty close. Parts look like all suggested retail.

Agreed. If you subtract the cost of all the new parts, which seem retail, it looks like $3k for them to take the motor out, rebuild it with the new parts and put it back in. That's a pretty good deal. FWIW, I am spending over $1k just to have a brand new block prepped for a build.
