Default lifter oil galley

Quick question. I know that pre-2000 ls1 blocks had an oiling issue with the lifter galley crossover at the rear of the motor, and that to fix that they opened it up to allow a more unrestricted flow.

Has anyone ever machined an opening in the pre 2000 blocks to simulate this? Is it even possible?

Just curious, thanks!

Anybody? I know this isn't really a common thought, but I'm genuinely curious if anyone's ever done this successfully.

I’ve done it on the engine in my car now. It has been awhile but I think we went at least a 1/4" deep.
