Default around 650 lq4 turbo theme build help.

im building an 03 s10 blazer 2dr. 2wd. sold my s10 that had my gen3 lq4 in it. i am doing a 2017 z06 inspired build. my stock 6.0 ran perfect when yanked from the s10 all it has is an ls6 manifold.

i am going to run AC in this truck vintage air system inside dash. so im looking for options and opinions with this with also a front mount intercooler.

im fairly new to turbos so im not sure what size i need. s475 s478 s480? what size wastegate and bov and what size intercooler?

what do i need internaly to make it stand up to 650 -700 hp on the street and long trips and extremely rare track visit? i want it to be nice but also dont wanna blow money i dont need to. i see alot of you guys not even touch the inside with almost 800+

im already thinking

arp head studs and rod bolts... main bolts too?

ls9 head gaskets

BTR stage 3 turbo cam with his springs (i think the stage 2 would be good also but if i can get away with the 3 for the kickass sound and decent driveability it would be a plus for car shows and cruise nights)

ls2 timing chain

high flow oil pump... brand?

im planning on going single 4 inch exhaust out the back with an xr-1 muffler

im building my own hot side and all the rest of the piping

i ride around alot with my wife and kids to car shows and doing cruising in general but i like to put it down once in a while. i just want reliabilty for a RESPOSIBLE driver if ya know what i mean.

i really appreciate any help i can get im just missing some small odds and ends to my build list and was hoping for you guys to help plug it in and get me in the right direction.

ALSO any local help would be awesome too!

It sounds like you already have things covered, but since you said you are building your own hot side and planning long trips... Add 1/2" clearance and heat shielding to everything people tell you about hotside clearance. A car that will have no problems burning plug wires at the track may not last 20 miles in stop'n'go traffic with inadequate shielding. If this is ever to be used for towing, your trans temps will go through the roof without an extra cooler. Also, being 2wd with anything approaching a street friendly suspension setup means you will never hook enough power to need the ARP hardware. The LQ4 needs absolutely nothing internally to hold the power you asked about, and only minor valvetrain upgrades (springs/pushrods), to make the power you referenced with boost.

not even gen 4. rods over my 3's? what about turbo size? if I see a s480 for a great price is it too big? what about bov and wastegate size? ideal hotside pipe size? thoughts on btr stg 3 turbo cam?

I forgot to mention I'm running a 4l80e into a shortened 8.8 (with cobra clutch pack) with 19x12 vette wheels wrapped in 345 35 19 tires. so it will hook fairly decent... I'm still tossing around a 4 link with qa1's but I'm not sure yet.

I know what I need but not EXACTLY what I need lol I bet that makes sense to most people who remember just starting out turbo.

The con rods wouldn't be necessary, I have no firsthand experience with Borg turbos, and the BTR cam, while not necessary, sounds like fun. As for ideal hotside pipe, I would forget about ideal and just use some 2.5" that seems to be good enough for damn near everything. Ideal involves tons of variables to calculate minor improvements in one area that cause minor detriment in others. Sounds like a fun project.

Turbo size is all up to you. Getting ~650 shouldn't be too much issue. Any of the turbos you mentioned should make the power you want. Ill pm you with a couple builds.

For the relatively modest goals, and relatively stock stock engine, I think the BTR stage II turbo cam may be a better fit for this build. Although a lot of that will be determined by which cam and stall and rear gear you choose to use.

The genIV rods are not necessary, neither are the ARP rod bolts for your genIII rods. The ARP main studs and head studs are nice, but not required at this level. Do not re-use the stock bolts, but you can order new stock replacements for cheaper than the ARP hardware. A high volume oil pump is not necessary either, and arguably should not be used unless you have a high volume oil pan. A ported and shimmed stock oil pump should be just fine for this.

I would think any of the turbos you mentioned would work well with your set-up, but I am no expert on the matter, and a lot of it depends on which cam/stall/gear you choose to run.

depending on what turbo you go with will determine which cam Brian spec's or suggests.

Really though, for ~650hp, again, almost any cam will do that too on a LQ4. I agree, if your gonna do it, try to match it all up. I personally like the ljms turbo stg2 cam, even na it works well. With boost, it should be amazing. Its working well in Denmahs Colorado.

This is very similar to what I want to rock. Currently knee deep in books and boxes of parts.

Good luck!
