Default Question on rod and pistons

Please before I start. I had a search and tried to find the answer I am not great on computers so please don't abuse me if this has already been answered. My question can I use the standard rods with arp bolts and use Pistons designed for a 6.125 rod? I am teaching a senior shop class and fund the build myself so I am trying to get out of it a bit cheaper. I eventually will run a turbo, there seems to be a lot better selection of affordable Pistons with the 6.125x6.098 spec forged pistons

You can as long as the piston and rod are meant for the same diameter pin. The stock rods are meant for a .944" pin while most of the aftermarket pistons for a 6.125" rod are also for a .927" pin. If you have a press fit rod, it is possible to hone the piston pin bore out to use the larger pin.

Wouldn't using a 6.098 rod on pistons designed for 6.125 rods end up leaving the piston way short in the bore?

The pistons for 6.125 rods are shorter to compensate for the longer rod...so if you use it with a shorter rod then the compression height would be low?

Sounds like he is on a budget, and wants
lower compression for turbo build. And
if he is a teacher he maybe wanting to teach
that it is ok to think outside of the box.

Yeah exactly. It will work, but unless you cut the deck, you end up with the piston in the hole.
